Frequently Asked Questions

Here at Doula for Your Family, we understand that new parents have a lot of questions. Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to feel confident and supported during this special time. Below are some of the most common questions we receive.

  • Aren’t doulas just for birth?

    Not at all!

While birth doulas are wonderful caregivers for labor support, postpartum doulas specialize in the tender weeks that follow.

We step in the moment you bring your baby home to help you transition from pregnancy to life with a newborn.

We are here to lovingly support you as you recover from birth and process your experience.

Beyond emotional support, we provide evidence-based guidance on feeding, bonding, and soothing, while also handling household tasks like laundry and organizing.

Our goal is to wrap you in care so you can settle in comfortably and confidently.

  • What does a postpartum doula do?

Postpartum doulas provide a range of services including baby care, light household tasks, sibling support, and meal preparation.

Most importantly, they offer emotional support and evidence-based information to help parents navigate the early days with their new baby.

  • How can a postpartum doula help me?

A postpartum doula can help you recover from childbirth, process your birth experience, and provide practical support as you adjust to your new role as a parent.

They are there to answer your questions and help you feel confident in caring for your newborn.

  • How do I choose the right postpartum doula?

Choosing a postpartum doula is a personal decision.

Look for someone whose approach aligns with your values and needs.

Consider interviewing a few doulas to find the right fit for your family.

  • How long can I hire a postpartum doula?

The duration of hiring a postpartum doula can vary based on your family's needs.

Some families may only require support for a few weeks, while others may benefit from several months of assistance.

We work with you to create a plan that fits your specific situation and preferences.

  • What is the difference between a postpartum doula and a nanny?

While both postpartum doulas and nannies provide care for children, their roles differ significantly.

A postpartum doula focuses on supporting the entire family during the postpartum period, offering education and emotional support, whereas a nanny primarily provides childcare.

Doulas are trained to assist with the unique challenges of new parenthood.

  • My baby is already here! Is it too late to hire a doula?

    No!

Most postpartum doulas do book up a few months in advance, however we always make every effort to help new families get the support they need.

If we can't book you, we may be able to recomend another doula or provide virtual support.

  • How much do doula services cost?

Costs are based on a variety of factors including hours, location, and length of contract.

Whether you need assistance for just one day a week or every day, our doulas are available for shifts ranging from 4 to 12 hours. With rates between $35 and $70 per hour.
